Description
Here is a pretty fair imitation of a smaller crayfish. This fly can be scaled up or down, or have the colors changed around pretty easily to match your local waters.
This pattern is based on the saltwater fly called the “Swamp Cabbage Shrimp” which is also available on our saltwater flies page. The difference is that the Craw version adds some rabbit strip claws, where the shrimp relies on the ultra buggy mega semi-seal dubbing to produce the legs. Also, the shrimp is tied in a brown olive color, while the 420 Craw is tied with, what else, California 420 dubbing. I like the California 420 here because it adds little hints of red flash into the dark green olive dubbing.
